Card and Other Tricks

Lucky Thirteen

Ask a person to shuffle the pack and deal out five packs of five cards. Take the remainder of the pack away, at the same time glancing at and memorizing the bottom card.

The person is asked to look at any one of the five packs and to memorize one of the five cards.

Gather the five packs into one pack, making sure that the selected card is in the middle pack of the five when stacking.

The cards are then dealt again into five packs and the person is asked to look at the five packs and indicate which of the packs contains the selected card.

The five packs are then boxed again with the selected card being in the middle pack.

Place the boxed five packs on the top of the remainder of the pack and ask the person to cut the cards several times.

To locate the selected card, look through the pack to find the bottom card, which you memorized from the discarded pile of cards.

The selected card will be the thirteenth card from the bottom card. If the bottom card is discovered near the end of the pack, count to the bottom and then continue from the top until you reach the thirteenth card.
