Play |
After the cards have been dealt, the top card of the remainder of the pack is revealed to ascertain the "trump suit". Each player in turn, starting to the left of the dealer and in rotation, will decide whether to play the round or to stack his cards. This decision is based on the strength of the hand dealt. If a player is of the opinion that the hand will win a trick or tricks, he or she will decide to play. If the hand is considered not worthy of a trick, the cards are stacked and the player takes no further part in the round. This process is repeated at the start of every round. Five tricks are available on each deal. The player who wins the first trick, leads to the next trick, the player who wins the second trick leads to the third trick and so on. Each player starts with 20 points. The only way points are gained is by playing. 2 points are awarded for every trick made. 1 point is deducted from any player who plays but fails to win a trick. |

NB |
When a club is shown as the trump suit all players must play and pay the agreed stake into the kitty for that round, regardless of the strength of their hand. |
